History of Birla Mandir, Delhi

The Birla Mandir, also known as the Laxminarayan Temple, is a Hindu temple located in Delhi, India. It was built by the Birla family, a prominent Indian business family, in 1939. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu deities Laxmi and Narayana.

The foundation stone of the temple was laid by Maharaja Udaybhanu Singh of Rewa, who was a close friend of the Birla family. The temple was designed by Pandit Vishwanath Shastri, a Hindu scholar and architect. The construction of the temple was completed in 1939.

The temple was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi, who was a strong advocate of religious tolerance. Gandhi believed that the temple would be a symbol of peace and harmony between Hindus and Muslims.
