Chini ka Rauza

Chini ka Rauza place is the gravesite of Shah Jahan's prime minister, the scholar and poet Afzal Khan Shirazi. The monument is well-known for its complex "chini" work, which is another name for glazed tile work.

Due to its distinctive Persian architectural style, Chini Ka Rauza stands out among other Mughal monuments. It is thought to be the sole Persian-style building in all of India.

History

The China Tomb of Agra is another name for Chini ka Rauza. This monument is the resting place of a Persian-born poet who served as Shah Jahan's Wazir (Prime Minister). Mullah passed away at Lahore in 1639. His remains were transported back to Agra and interred here. The monument is oriented towards the holy city of Mecca, just like every other mausoleum constructed by the Mughals.

Architecture

The turquoise, orange, yellow and green tiles, also known as kashi or chini, are the most attractive element of the rectangular Chini ka Rauza building. To give the impression that the building has two stories, its dome has been raised. The primary room connects to the four side halls through an octagonal shape with eight arched clefts. The Chini ka Rauza is thought to be the only structure in India having Persian architectural designs built into it. The shrine's interior is decorated with elaborate murals and Quranic verses.

Taj Mahal is around 20 minutes away from the landmark. You may get reach this monument from the Taj Mahal, the Agra Fort, and Itimad-ud-Daulah using auto rickshaws or other modes of transportation.
